Do I lose my stuff when Reinstalling OSX? (Fixing Rosetta)

So I had a bunch of problems with Software Update failing mid-update. I've pretty much got things running again on my MBP, except for one major issue. No Rosetta.

Pretty much no third-party apps run. Just one bounce, then nothing. I want to re-install X to see if it fixes it.

If I put in the install disk and re-install, will it be like starting over again, or will it preserve all my stuff like documents/settings/apps I've installed etc?

It depends on the type of install you choose. If you choose to format the disk and do a clean install you will lose all your stuff. If you choose an Archive & Install then all your own stuff will be kept (and the old system will be archived, hence the name). You should probably choose the latter install type.
