Right last week after backing up and doing a fresh install of tiger i was copying over my files off of an external FW drive everything was fine, until it came to my itunes and iphoto library's some apps.

The effected apps would either not install at all or would say they installed but wouldn't work. So i tried copying the .dmg or .zip fils over to my powerbook and then install, but this wouldn't work as i would keep getting a "error code -36" gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr

itunes and iphoto libraries would start to copy over but when it reached a certain file it would freeze and give the code -36 again. to cut it short i lost some stuff, not much, as most files seemed ok (could have been worse i thought) gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (but phew as it could be much much worse)

I thought this may be some dodgy sectors on the FW HD but the same thing happened to my iPod where i'd backed up my films, they copied to a point then froze??????

So fresh install of tiger and a zeroed FW HD later im re-backing up and testing the back ups AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING??????????????????? GGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

But its happening to different files! I've even tried creating a dmg of my whole itunes (19.55 GB) and copying it over that way no luck. i tried mounting then copying and just copying the whole dmg no luck?

I would say my FW HD is F***** but the same thing happed to my iPod, or maybe OS X was wrong? but this is the second install, I've tries different cables so it's not that and i backed up iPhoto to DVD and when copying that back to my powerbook the same code -36!

Im stumped? any one got a clue? or had a similar thing happen to them? i feel naked without any backups!

P.S. sorry for the rant, but this is really F****** me off!

As far as I recall error -36 is disk error (i.e. probably a hardware fault)...
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
