Compileless Fink?

I've got an iBook, and I prefer to keep it pretty simple, and don't want to bother with dependency trees, compilation, and stuff like that. I use a Gentoo desktop, so I am by no means against compiling, but for something like this it just seems unreasonable to need to deal with. Does anyone know of a variant of Fink (or something similar) that works on pre-compiled packages?: I'd like to use various UNIX/Linux software on my laptop (like Dia).

Umm, you can only install binary packages if you want. Though that's usually a small subset of those available in source form. Use FinkCommander for a purty interface to the whole works.

If you're happy with the precompiled packages available with the stable release versions of fink, then no, you don't need to compile anything. But realize that you're stuck with a pretty old catalog of apps, and you can't even update fink itself except to stable releases (which are pretty far between).

If you have another faster Mac running fink, you can build the latest stuff on it, and then use apache to setup an apt-get server, so that your other machines don't have to compile stuff anymore.
