I'm getting ready to sell my old G4 iMac, and I'd like to set it all up for the next owner with the OS patched with all the latest updates, etc... Obviously to do that, there has to be an admin user created to have acess to the machine.

Is there a way to 'reset' the system afterwards (ie. deleting all users, getting the welcome screen/setup assistant on boot) so that the next owner can set up their own new user account without having to deal with any existing accounts used to update the OS?

Unless you are planning on transferring your Tiger license (assuming you are referring to 10.4), you should just use the restore disks that came with the G4. That would set it back to the way it was when you bought it and then the new owner can decide what OS he/she wants on it.

I recently had to do the same and found this very helpful:

One thing you will also want to do is remove the temporary user you created to install all of the updates.

From single user mode you can use:
rm -R /Users/username
