Restore CD?

Hey, my brother bought a Powermac G4 a long while ago, and Safari keeps quitting on him, like every few seconds it will quit. He's using other browsers, but he really wants Safari back. We've tried clearing system cache, temp files, everything that may be of concern, but nothing works. We came to the conclusion that we'd need to use the restore disc to return everything to new again. The problem is, he doesn't have the restore CD.....

Is there a way to get one? Or is there a way to download Safari from somewhere? Any help is appreciated!

What version of OS X?
How old is the G4?

It sounds like there's more to the story than you're letting on. Not accusing you or anything but If you have an illegal copy of Mac OS X or have lost your original copy then there's not much you can do. Download Firefox in the meantime until you find new OS X install disks.

Thanks for the insight, and, no, nothing's "illegal", and it sounds like an accusation to me. What is so hard to believe about him not having the restore CD? By the way, don't you think that if something "illegal" was happening, I wouldn't be here looking for help on how to get a restore CD? Don't you think I'd maybe....have a *copy* of one somewhere? It's one of those blue and white G3's that are upgraded to a G4 using an expansion card. He bought it from someone on an online forum a whie back, and that person didn't have the restore CD for it.

My brother almost wasn't going to do it, then the seller said he'd load OS X onto it if he'd still buy it so, in essence, my brother accepted. But after a while of use, Safari would start quitting randomly, every once in a while, and then it started to happen more often. The it just started quitting after a few seconds, so he looked for a restore CD, and said "oh ****!" and realized he didn't have one.

So I am asking how to *LEGALLY* obtain a restore CD from somewhere, be it an online store, or someone who is selling a *LEGAL* copy. Again, I appreciate the help and NO I am not trying to do soemthing "illegal".

Don't flame me but when the seller installed OS X on that Mac, he should have provided the installation disks. As it stands, the copy on the Mac is in fact an illegal one.

You know what, I didn't even think about that, and you're right. I'm gonna need to contact the seller to get the CD's. If I do get the CD's from him, then it WOULDN'T be illegal, correct, as I would have the originals?

That would be the way to go. Good luck getting them.

Thanks...damn...this sucks....I hope we can contact this guy... If not, I'll urge my brother to toss it out and get a Mac Mini. He'll probably go for that. When he saw my Mini he was totally in awe! Anyways, thanks for the info guys, highly appreciated!

You can always buy a copy of OS X. If you do that, make sure you archive install to preserve any software. You can also download a nightly build of Webkit, from here: http://nightly.webkit.org/builds/ usual beta software warning apply.

Have you tried calling Apple to see if you can get the restore cds from them? A few years ago I bought an iBook and it came with the wrong restore discs, so I called Apple support and they quickly sent me the right set. They didn't even request the wrong set back.

That may work....but would they have restore CD's for a fairly old machine? I think we're better off just getting a brand new copy of OS X or a new machine.
