EDIT: i cant seem to delete this. I figured it out... for anyone else: use $apachectl [command] to control the daemon.

I wanted to learn how to start and stop shares such as the FTP server and Apache server from my command line.

I've been doing some googling and the best I can find has too much stuff that is unrelated or doesn't make sense to me, maybe someone can point me to a more helpful FAQ or man page.

In case you want to ask Why?, I don't like leaving shares I dont use frequently on, but I like the option to remotely enable them through SSH if I need to.
