I'm trying to connect to my OS X box from a XP box and it's asking for a password. It does not seem to want to take the correct password so i'm guessing I've got nothing in the samba passwd file. How do you add users on OS X to samba?

(I did add the OS X system to the XP's hosts file... i don't know if that is the issue somehow)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but it should be fairly straightforward.

Log in as that user on the Mac. Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Services and select 'Windows Sharing'. Then press the 'Enable Accounts...' button. Select the user, enter the password, done.

It is set up like that but for some reason it does not like my passwords any more. In fact I created a new OS X account and added it to the windows sharing but it would not work either.

Did you check if it's the password? Try something simple (<8 chars, all lowercase, nothing else than 7bit ASCII) and see if that helps.

ssh and samba rely on different passwd validation. Just because one works does not mean the other does too. Other than that, I have no idea what you could do.

I think it's got to have something to do with the IP hosts file. I started getting this trouble after I added a different IP that's on a P to P connection between the boxes to it. I think I'll try disabling TCP/IP netbios helper when I get home and see what happens. I don't need it on anyway.
