I just purchased and new G4 15" PB 1.67. 1G last week. I upgraded the OS to 10.4.5. For the past week when I start up the computer I get a kernal panic within 1-3 minutes after startup. The screen goes dark and I get the usual message to shut down the computer. After a restart the computer then normally runs the rest of the day with no problem although I have had one freeze. I have run TechTool Pro and Disk First Aid and find no problems. I have started up with just the power adapater connected. This morning my first action was to access System Preferences and start the download of 10.4.6. After halfway through the download the computer gave me the black screen and message to shut down with the power button. System Preference Panel was the only thing I had opened. I have now installed 10.4.6. Not sure where to start to solve this problem. I have not run DiscWarrior. I can run Font Finagler but have not yet. MacMall installed an additional Ram chip when I ordered it but the memory show up ok on TechTool. I sure do not want to do a complete reinstall of the OS. Strange that the problem is on startup each day and then does not reappear.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Did you add new RAM to the computer?

Return the computer.

It's either bad RAM or some other hardware defect probably.
