Finder maxing out CPU -- help?

In the last few days, I've often noticed that my Powerbook's fan gets stuck on even though I am not running anything CPU intensive. Checking Activity Monitor, it seems the Finder is using the whole CPU. Relaunch it and everything works fine, until the next time I notice the fan is stuck on. I have no idea what triggers it.

I checked the Console but am not seeing any error messages of note. Any ideas of what else I can do to debug this? I'm on 10.4.5.

Thanks.

Edit: Just updated to 10.4.6, I'll see if it still happens.

Get ram, repair permissions, run chron jobs, restart your Mac.

Okay, I guess this is just another Finder bug. It is occurring only after I manipulate tif files with Photoshop 7, and I think maybe zip compression is confusing the Finder when it creates file previews. (Photoshop's save dialog says that older programs might not support zip compression on tiffs.)
