So the Image of doom is killing not only Safari, but the finder, preview and the help viewer (anything based on webkit). This is on things I need like Quickbooks Help (apparently contains an image of doom). It seems to be GIFs.

What can I do? I have the latest OS, quickbooks, everything. I don't think this happens to everyone so there seems to be no urgency on Apples part to fix it. Its driving me mad.

Here is an example from quickbooks help crashing:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000002

images that crash safari. there was a front page article here on macnn a few days ago. i had to use 'show package contents' on quickbooks, drill down to find three offending images and then rename them so the help viewer couldn't see them. i have no idea why this started happening. its always gifs.

Scroll down the page, and don't go there while you have important data open in your browser (should work in any 10.4 version of safari). Also, it really sucks to save it to your desktop; the Finder gets stuck in a crash loop until manage to get rid of the file.

<edit>
Also, it's not anything based on WebKit. The Finder and Preview most certainly don't use WK. It hits anything based on ImageIO, and therefore anything using NSImage or friends.
