Hello -

My buddy has an ibook g4 and was having major Kernal Panics which woudl result in a long list (of Darwin Version 7.9 and also 8.0) and end with "panic: we are haning here ..."

I was unable to load the restore cd during bootup becuase it would come down this this panic. So i connected it to my Powerbook using firewire to firewire, (the hd is fine), verified the permissions, and i ultimately decided to erase the disk and start from scratch. So now his HD is wiped clean, but i am still unable to boot from a cd.

I get: panic(cpu - caller 0x002de020): Unable to find driver for this platform: "Powerbook 6,5" adn then it goes on from there. ... briefly (with kernal version 8.0.0 ... )..

i have even tried to boot using my Tiger Retail CD and i get the same problem ...

i believe (it is my guess) that the Powerbook 6,5 is the open firmware, only becuase if i need to eject the cd and go thru the firmware, that is what it is called or mentioned.

HELP!! this is driving me insane .. is there a way to install thru my computer?

mike

You should be able to:
1) Boot his PB into Firewire mode.
2) Boot your PB using Tiger DVD
3) Install Tiger on his HD
4) Boot from his HD.....

And if it does that successfully, chances are he has a logic board issue.

I agree, it sounds like hardware, remove any extra ram that may be installed as if it's still panicking during installing, a new installation of OS X will achieve nothing.

I think this now needs to be moved to the iBook forum.

well i use my tiger retail cd and it has errors installing ... and since i wiped the disk i get the small system icon folder and question mark signifying that it cant find an operating system .. which makes sense if i hadnt JUST tried to install .. i did an erase and install .........

so still nothing .. but it gets closer only its runnign from my computer to install .. is that why it might be riddled with an error or two?

edit: i am more than fine with it being moved into the ibook section .....

The Panic said that there were no drivers for the hardware. I would try a different installation disc.
