I wanna' put my computer to sleep at night, then run a script the next morning to wake it, while I'm still sleeping, and run an iTunes playlist like an alarm. There's gotta' be a simple way to schedule OS X 10.4 to wake-up hardware, then run a script. Anybody know what it is?
I posted an earlier thread citing an alarm clock application w/ didn't quite work, either:

Any help?

I think this issue could be resolved doing the following...
1.) Set your wake-up time via the "Schedule" feature of the Energy Saver preference pane in System Preferences to wake your system up.
2.) You can then create an iCal event to run every morning at your desired wake-up time set above, and in the "Alarm" section, choose "Run Script" (as seen below):

I appreciate that. I hadn't realized there was a schedule wake-up feature in the System Preferences panel. That should work great!

Let me be really stupid and ask a question from the other end of this, how do I create the script to play an iTunes playlist?

I’ve never done that, but i would start by looking at iTunes’ dictionary in the Script Editor. That’s how you figure out how to make apps do what you want them to do.

AppleScripts have roots back to the olden days of the 80s. I haven't been using them for more than a couple years, but they can be handy. I asked this very same question at http://forums.macosxhints.com , and was directed to this pre-written script. To run it, open up the Applications/Apple Script folder and run the Script Editor program. Copy and paste text from the following web link into the blank window that appears:
http://homepage.mac.com/chapin.klein...kday_alarm.txt
Click the "Compile" button and then the "Run" button to test it. Change the the variables as you see fit, to change the playlist, or to adjust the volume and duration of the alarm, then save the script. That script can now be run from iCal at a specified time.
Let me know if it works OK...

No problem, I am glad to hear that the suggestion fits your needs.
