After like a min of non-usage, my screen dims real dark, then puts the display to sleep 20 min later. From what I read before, the auto dim will kick in half way between the time you stop using the computer and when it's suppose to put the display to sleep. Now, it does it like a min later, at max. How can I turn it off completely? It bothers me to no end.

Energy Saver -> Options tab -> Automatically reduce screen brightness before screen sleep

(or something, using OS X in Spanish)

No, I had tried that, and it's unchecked. I even tried checking it then unchecking it, but no luck.

I have to say that the one thing that still doesn't work properly in OS X is the Energy Saver control panel. My Mac often doesn't sleep when it should, and does this until I go back into the panel and move the sliders around, which seems to reset it and then works properly again.

I know what you mean, WOPR, I told my iMac not to put the HD to sleep ever, and yet it took a week for the machine to realise that I had unchecked the box, and only now does it not spin down the HD

Yeah I have the same problem. It seemed for a few days after 10.4.6 that it had been fixed, but then the dimming started again. I've tried that command line fix a few times as well, but even that doesn't work, and it's quite blatant when you type 'pmset -g' to look at the properties and halfdim says 0, and then you wait a few minutes and it dims....

getting back on topic - “sudo pmset halfdim 0″ only works until you restart. there is a bug somewhere... anyone know how to make that command run on startup by itself?

Make an AppleScript app doing something on the lines of "do shell script" command and put it on your account startup items.

It worked for me. I did the “sudo pmset halfdim 0″ thing and have my "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" set for 10 mins. The display remained wide awake [no half time dim] until 10 mins then went completely blank, before and after a computer restart.
