Is there a way in OS X to stop an applications icon from bouncing after a few times? For example, in Entourage, when a new mail arrives, the icon keeps bouncing until I switch to it. Would prefer for it to stop bouncing after, say, five or ten times.

Do you want all applications not to bounce, or just Entourage?

I would prefer for applications to bounce, but maybe five or seven times and then stop- Entourage is one of them.

Bouncing is a nice way to grab attention but it should stop after a few times.

I know of nothing that can stop the bouncing after a pre-determined amount of bounces. It's either all or none.

On the flip side, for Entourage, you can turn off the animated dock icon within the programs preferences:

Entourage > Preferences > General Preferences > Notification > Animate icon (un-check)

That should turn off the bouncing when you receive a new e-mail and simply show the brown envelope over the Entourage icon when new e-mail has been received.

And for all others check System Preferences > Dock > Animate opening applications

Some applications have an option to only bounce once instead of forever. It just depends. There's no global way to set it.

Try DockDetox

I dunno if it still works under 10.4, but it's worth trying.

There's a hidden preference for killing the dock notification bounce. You can set it with Transparentdock:
