OK well this is the situation. Im an editor for a Post Production house. My boss recently decided to upgrade to the G5 Quad with 4GB ram, Quadro 4500 card, 1 30" Apple Cinema Display and one 23" Apple cinema Display. With the Blackmagic Express Breakout box. COOL ha!

OK I know its a monster! But what i really want to know is should me Boss wait for the intel chips to come out 1st.

As my noob mind understands the Quad G5 isnt actually running on intels duo core right?

And if this is true will the Quad G5 take full advantage of FCP 5.1?

And is there any proper benchmark test i can refer to?

and what are the cons of this machine?

FCP 5.1 is most likely more optimized for the G5 than for Intel chips; that sort of task is also the G5's strongest point. I wouldn't worry about waiting. The primary downside of the machine is that in the future software will start requiring x86 chips, but by that time you'll probably have replaced it anyway (post production is usually pretty cutting edge, it seems).

Nobody knows. What we do know is that media encoding is a weak point of x86 cpus running MacOS X. It will be at least another major QuickTime upgrade until the performance is on par.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
