This is not a topic concerning professional problem. I just wonder that........

The Mac OS has develop from Jaguar, Panther to Tiger. What is it going to be the next one? Lion? Then elephant? Is there any more powful animals beyond these ones? I guess Apple will adopt any animal names they can image, like snake, snail and sprider, sooner or later.

Next is Leopard. Elephants are not cats, so that would be an unlikely choice.

Cats? I thought OS X is named after German tanks. So Elefant might be a possibility.

Are you serious?

I mean, you do realize that S.J. has spoken about the cats theme before, right? And that Nazi-era tanks make for really, really, really bad PR?

It hasn't been announced yet. Doubtful it will until months after Leopard is released.

FELINE OR FRAULEIN 2

Several Apple fans contacted Sneak to complain about an earlier item comparing Mac OS X to German panzers. Sneak had noted that Apple codenames Jaguar, Panther and Tiger were in prior use as the names of Teutonic tanks. Finger-wagging Mac fans accused Sneak of conveniently forgetting about Mac OS X 10.0 - codenamed Cheetah - and Mac OS X 10.1 - codenamed Puma - claiming that these two pussycats would have dissolved any ideas about Apple's fondness for goose-stepping and leather coats. But sadly it is the complainers who are remiss, having neglected to Google the Cheetah self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle (basically a tank that shoots upwards). And the SdKfz 234 Puma, which was a German eight-wheeled armoured car (basically a tank with tyres) used during World War II. Sneak is not sure what this proves, other than the fact that Sneak is never wrong and that Apple may well be running out of big-cat/German-tank codenames.

And while it's not German, this is my vote for one of the next OS X flavors and possibly the ultimate Windows killer

Well. It isn't the first time Apple has used tanks...

I remember someone on here suggested the name 'Fat Tabby', my vote still goes for that one.

Leopard is not a Nazi-era tank. When the successor to OS X Leopard is called Fox, Marten, or Boar then we know it's tanks the OS is named after.

I wasn't serious, but so far there was no OS X release that wasn't also a German tank.

It's a great theory. But if OS X code names are (mostly) Nazi tanks, what does that make Microsoft's Longhorn? The very horns of the Devil himself?

For Mac, I'm not sure, but it must be something related to cats.

For my future granfson, you know who he is. He's reading these texts now.

I don't believe in the tank thing either but it was a fun diversion.

Hmm... other than Lion (which just sounds like an awkward name for an operating system), we're completely out of big cats. We may end up moving on to the mediumm-sized cats afterwards: I'd personally expect either Lynx or Ocelot... both of which are also awkward sounding. Or maybe after 10.5, we'll be seeing 11? Hmm...

(PS: Cheetahs are not "big cats;" they are much more closely related to housecats than to their bigger cousins.)

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species
