Hey folks,

I've been away from the Mac since 10.1, and I'm still trying to get used to things again. One thing I remember being able to do, was change the number of blinks when you select an item in a menu from 3 to 1. I can't seem to find the setting anymore. Any ideas?

Thanks

You can't. You still can't turn it off.

Write Apple hate mail. It's come to this point.

Running 10.4.6 with no hacks or 3rd party extensions installed.

Only 1 blink. I didn't do anything to cause it as far as I know. Stock install.

That's the default—well, only—blinking option. Some of us would like to just turn it off completely, like in the OS 9 days. But, really, though, I've been on OS X for years; I've given up hope.

I thought I've seen a thing that turns menu blinking off... or was that menu fading... I can't remember.

Of all the things to get upset about...

Seriously, I don't even notice the menu blinking until someone points it out.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

The blinking is there to give feedback that you have selected something. I think the default setting is the same as 2 blinks under OS 9.

Mindfad, why do you want to turn off the blinking? The delay isn't THAT long, is it?

What's funny is that I really notice it when it *isn't* there.

I think that the OP (and others) should have the option to turn it off, but I've always loved that extra bit of feedback. In fact I'd go even further and say that I wish I had the option of turning it on in Windows. I don't know how many times I've thought I've selected a menu item in Windows only to find that I hadn't. On the Mac there's never a doubt.

Oh, and wasn't the default in OS 9 and earlier 3 blinks? Be glad you're not stuck with that.

Just a personal preference, really. In OS 9, I always had it off. I didn't want the confirmation blinks; I know what I'm selecting. It's minor, really. I'm not upset about it, I promise you. It would be nice to have the option in OS X, though. But if we never get it, I've definitely moved on.

Easy fix: as you select from a menu item, close your eyes momentarily. Hey presto! No more menu blinking!
