It's just the internet. With the way fuel prices are everyone's slowing down to conserve energy. Didn't you see it all explained on that link at Digg.com?

In serious answer to the OP... ...yes, Tiger is extremely poopy with regards to memory management. I noticed a huge difference between Jaguar and Tiger when doing certain tasks. I have a Gb in this machine here and it's nowhere near enough.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

So what's the answer? Get 2GB of memory? Or buy a new computer?

Wait another 6 months till the next generation of Intel processors become available. Then get a new iMac. I honestly don't think 2 GB of RAM will do anything. Heck, I barely noticed going from 512 MB to 1 GB on my Mac mini...

The answer to your question is: I don't know, perhaps if you asked this question in the appropriate forum like the "Tiger" forum, you'd get an answer that might help you.

I never understand why people response in forums with such hate to other posters.

You took time out of your life, twice now, to make fun of me.

If you were so offended, why did you respond at all?

It makes me laugh everytime.

Sorry you mistook my posts for hate. It was far from it in my intentions.

The first one was a joke.

The second one was me answering why I didn't give advice in the first post and a pointer on how to get the correct answer to your question.

About 50% of the people in the lounge are windows users, and NOT Mac developers and couldn't answer your question. Notice how you still don't have an answer? You might have had one had you posted in the correct forum.

See, another person who didn't answer your question, yet took the time to post. Hmmm...

I didn't really think you were being hateful. I was being over dramatic. But my point, as started in a whole new thread, is that I do find it pointless to have answers like that.

I understand your reasoning and thinking.

Ironically I posted in the lounge, so I wouldn't get yelled at because I was unsure of what forums this question should go in.

I figured, play it safe, and go to the forum of everything.

If you just installed Tiger, it could be because Spotlight is indexing your harddisk. It'll stop soon.

I might help out, but apparently offering advice is being a "forum Nazi." Darn shame.

768MB of RAM on an iMac G4 should be enough, so maybe it's like hayesk says and it's still indexing (the Spotlight icon should have a blinking dot in the center and when you try to use it it tells you it's indexing). My experiences have indicated that Tiger shouldn't slow down your machine.

And since it *is* a OS X question, I would agree it's best suited for the OS X forum, or at least the iMac forum.

I tried to help. I suggested asking the question in the correct forum would yield a better answer.

A thread was started about me I think.

I guess I'll just hold in my suggestions for how to get the best answer from now on.

I wonder if the homebrewing forum I frequent could help me with the problems I am having with my digital camera.

Someone's going to yell at you no matter where you go around here. The most yelling happens in the Lounge.

Ignore the yelling and you will be a much happier person.

Obviously this is a MAC OSX issue your having so then it would go to none-other than the " Mac OS X - Discussion and support of all Mac operating systems." area. On top of that since your a seasoned member you coulda searched for it as well and probbaly found your way and found that when installing Tiger, Spotlight likes to index your HD, thus slowing down your computer by what did you say 20%? I'm amazed you can tell that your system slowed down by 20%, you must have one of those old abacuses sitting on your desk. This subject has been well covered since Tiger was first released. BTW Tiger runs faster then Panther did on my system. I saw an increase in 31.678% in speed.

For someone with over 500 posts, your no stranger to these fourms. So in reality you shoulda known on where to post this thread. I think you posted it here just to prove some point along side of your other "fourm" thread located here in the Lounge to draw the see what I mean plot. I have a small post count and I know exactly where to post issues, the mods and admins here make that very clear on the main fourm page. I'd only expect something like this from some newbie to the fourms, but yet you do have 500 posts, just wondering where all those might actually be here...

Oh did a search, you clearly know how to use these fourms because you've posted in many of the different fourms on here, search feature helped out on this one, so I think this is a plot against your other thread.

I can tell the difference when Spotlight is indexing. Any disk operation takes about a decade to complete.

I posted this 1st to end the conspiracy.

I know that some would think it goes in the Mac OS X forum, but I just felt like posting in the lounge to see what people would say.

At least I made 3 new friends.

You should tell a mod to move this thread to the OS X forum. You might get a better answer there. taking the bait

Have you repaired permissions recently? Open disk utility and hit repair permissions. See if that fixes things. Have you done all the necessary software updates? I never noticed a slow down between Tiger and Panther as far as Safari went, most people said it was faster. I've got the same amount of RAM. Though there are lots of potential reasons why web browsing might be slow.
Try using Camino from mozilla.org and see if that feels notably faster. If it does then your safari installation has a problem.
