My dual G5 seems to be indexing (spotlight) so much lately. 3 hours left here, 6 hours left there. When does this end? what is rule on this? thanks. never noticed so much indexing.

How do you know when it's indexing?

I have meters that are always running high -- menu meters, and then you click spotlight icon and it says indexing.

Have an external disk with large amounts of data connected? Have any application that may be creating files at a fast pace?

Those two can make Spotlight go index crazy, check it out.

I set spotlight to ignore my downloads folder. that helped quite a bit.

Maybe it's indexing a cache folder. What browser do you use?
