I just switched to a Mac and I'm glad I did. Unfortunately my external HD of my old PC (whose BIOS failed so I can't access the computer anymore) seemse to work only in read-only form using my Mac. I don't remember protecting the external HD from the PC, but perhaps I did. Any ideas on how I can change this setting sop that I can access my information. It's especially frustrating because I can now no longer use the External HD to save and appears to be completely locked.

Thanks!

You probably formatted the drive as NTFS with your PC, and OSX can only read NTFS partitions. Copy your data somewhere else and reformat the disk as FAT32 (for crossplatform support) or HFS (for Mac-only support) in Disk Utility.
