I got a copy of osx 10.4 from a salesman today and later proceded to update to 10.4.6 when i got home.I ran software update and just before the combo 10.4.6 began i put the machine to sleep.Upon waking the machine the 10.4.6 update had a red dot next to it.Everything downloaded fine however when it asked to restart my machine it said that one the updates was not succssefull.I later proceded to update 10.4.6 again without problems however my paranoia has kicked in that i may have overwritten something or scerwed up.Did i screw something up? should i calm down? Was i right in assuming that putting my machine to sleep would never causes this?

Also are the crons handled different to what i have read online as opposed in panther.Should i continue to use a third party such as http://www.santasw.com/products.html called main menu.Or should i learn to do this from the terminal.

Thank you for any feedback boys and girls.

1.) Calm down. If the update to 10.4.6 run again and said it was successfully then just trust it.
2.) Periodic tasks run automatically. Don't bother with "system maintenance" applications. The system maintains itself.

When you put the machine to sleep, the hard drive spins down. Consequently, it would be impossible to install an update. This is why the first update failed. If the second one went through all right, you're fine.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Since you put the machine to sleep before the update could apply, nothing happened at all. You're fine.

Even if you had caused some problem, running the update again would have overwritten the damage anyway.

ATSServer is the Apple Type Solutions Server. It has something to do with font services. (Remember, in the UNIX world, "server" does NOT necessarily mean a network server. It just means a "thing" that offers a "service" to other "things". In this case, it offers text rendering services to applications.)
