The sounds assoicated with Finder are not working. Trash Can: no sounds are heard when adding items and emptying. Dropping items to different folders is also not working. MP3s play and the feedback sound with adjusting the volume do work.
Thus far, the only thing I can think of is to relaunch Finder and repair disk permissions. No change. Perhaps there's a way to relaunch the sound module of the OS? I don't know.
I didn't want to reboot yet since I'm coming up on 2 weeks uptime. ^_^
try going into prefs, i dont know what section it is, but turn the sounds off, and then back on again. have you even looked to see if it hasnt turned it self off?

Yeah I've tried that. No change. I also scoured the Apple Discussion boards and found that a good many people have had this happen. Apparently the sounds in Mail are also affected. I hadn't noticed this but my mail sounds were gone too. Following some of the suggestions there, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app and ensured that 44100.0 Hz was selected under Audio Output. I changed this value and changed it back. No change. One person on the boards had success with trashing the Finder plist file. I tried this. No change.
Eventually I just rebooted. The sounds came back. Hopefully it won't happen again.
