Hi,

I'm giving my sister an old external drive I have, but she's on a Windows PC.
Can a disk be formated for a Windows environment using Disk Utilities? If so what format type is used?

She can use Windows the format the drive. You don't have to do anything.

You can't format in NTFS format, but you can format in FAT (which I think is called "MS-DOS" in Disk Utility. You need to select the drive, not the volume, in the left column in Disk Utility to see this option.

If your sister wants an NTFS formatted disk, she can do so herself on her Windows PC.
