hey folks! you're my only hope!

my 12" powerbook g4 has insomnia.

fold it in on itself, it doesn't sleep. select "sleep" manually from the apple menu; it doesn't sleep. fiddle with the energy saver controls; it doesn't sleep. poor dear!

so, this has gone on for months now. i lurked on all the mac forums there are, trying all the solutions piecemeal. when none of them worked, i wondered if it might be a hardware problem after a slight drop, but i had the geniuses look at it, and now everything is tick-a-boo inside. so it seems to be a software problem. a mysterious, difficult, testy software problem.

there are apparently others who have had similar problems, and i've seen all the suggestions -- login as a different user, see if your keyboard is maladjusted, see if bluetooth is interrupting, see if the magnet that tells it to sleep is out of place, reset the power processor, check permissions, run normal utilities. done it all. no luck!

the one remaining idea folks have is to reinstall from the disk. unfortunately, i acquired the laptop from a friend who doesn't know where the original disk is anymore. alas, poor student that i am, i do things like this.

any ideas?

thank you thank you thank you anyone who can help!
