In recent weeks, my G5 tower with a MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 has developed a really odd behaviour.
In many applications, particularly Photoshop, I get strange results when dragging.
In Photoshop, this manifests as a significant delay after a drag - dragging out a circular marquee might result in a 5 second delay before I can work in the app again (note that I can keep working in other apps without a problem during this time) when I release, whereas painting something might result in a delay of 30 seconds or more depending on the length of time the mouse was pressed. Interestingly, the results of the drag occur as expected during the drag (Ex. paint from the paint brush shows up as I drag), it doesn't lag behind - it just causes the maddening delay at the end (try working in Photoshop without dragging).
In many other apps dragging results in the cursor (and whatever I dragged) jumping back and forth between the starting position and points along the drag path for a few seconds after release. No problems in the Finder or other more "standard" apps - mostly in media apps (interestingly it occurs in content in the Flash player, but not in the IDE).
This is not related to CPU. I've monitored the cpu usage after drags and it doesn't spike.
I've tried the default Apple mouse drivers, MS's latest drivers and USB Overdrive - no go. I'm planning to reinstall OSX in a few weeks after I get a macbook and dump my files on it, but it would be nice to work in relative happiness until then.
Any ideas?
