hi

would a mac os8.5 installation cd that says "Power Macintosh G3" on it boot up on a power macintosh 5500?

I know it was bundled with a G3 but can it still run on a 5500? (considering it's OS8.5)

It should boot it, although it may not install anything. However, there is a workaround. If you hook your G3 and your 5500 up to the network, boot the 5500 from the CD, you should be able to access your G3 over the network (via the Chooser). Once you have your G3's hard drive mounted, you can just drag the System Folder over to your 5500's hard drive. Be sure to select the 5500's HDD as the startup volume, though, or else your System Folder won't be blessed.
