I recently opened a moon calculator program I got from Apple's web site. I think it said (I wasn't paying attention) it was going to do a few things in the background and then to re-launch it.
Anyway, after it opened, I noticed that I have a process called mds that I don't recall seeing. So, does anybody else have this in their activity monitor (I view All Processes).
Thanks,
Mark

It's part of the Spotlight system. It's always been there.

Thanks. (I wish Apple would publish a list of all of OS X's processes...)

It's not too hard to figure it out yourself. Just look at the things running and do a man [process name] for the ones you're unfamiliar with.

It stands for Metadata Server, by the way.
