Hey everyone, just a quick question.
For some reason, I've recently had difficulty removing applications from the dock. I used to be able to drag items from it and let them vanish, but for some reason this method is no longer working. I've tried checking in System Preferences for a configuration that might have been changed recently, but there doesn't seem to be an option to lock or unlock the dock. Any recommendations?

This might sound silly, but make sure the application isn't running when you try dragging it out.

Nope, the application's not running. I'm still able to click on the icons in the dock, I just can't drag them at all. This is very odd.

I don't know if this is a new development or if I just haven't noticed it until now, but I can't actually drag any files for some reason. If I need to take something to the trash, I have to right click on it and use the "send to trash" option. I'm also having trouble copying and pasting, with a variety of different applications. Anyone else seen problems like this?

It sounds like there's a problem with the program coreservicesd, which is responsible for drag-and-drop. A couple of questions:
1) What version of OS X are you running?
2) Have you tried restarting since the problem showed up?

1) 10.3.9
2) A couple of times, and the problem still persists. I've also tried restarting finder, which I've heard can sometimes solve problems like this. No dice.

A bit of Googling suggests that this will probably solve the problem:
Go into the Terminal (in the folder /Applications/Utilities) and enter the following commands
Code:
cd /Library/Caches
rm com.apple.dock.iconcache.*
Then restart. Hopefully you'll have dragging back after that.
