I lug my PBG4 back and forth to work. At home I use an Airport network, but at work I prefer to use my wired connection when possible. I do, however, have a wireless account at work that I use periodically. My setup used to work in the following way:

1) When I was at home, there was no wired connection and Airport kicked in.
2) When I was at work, the wired connection would take over when connected and the computer wouldn't connect to the airport network.

Now when I am at work, I get both a wired and a wireless connection and I have to turn off Airport to disconnect from the wireless network. This means I have to turn it back on when I get home. This just seems like a very Microsoftish routine and I'm wondering what happened for this to change. I have the Location set to Automatic with the Ethernet connection at the top of the list followed by the Airport connection. Just to be clear, what I want to have happen is for the computer to look for the Ethernet and connect if possible and only use the Airport if there is no Ethernet available.

This has been going on for quite some time, so I don't know if it occurred with a system update (even my switch to Tiger) or if it is something that I accidentally changed in the network configuration that I can fix.

Thanks,
kman

If Ethernet is at the top of the list, traffic will pass through that network. That won't stop AirPort from connecting (akin to plugging in the cable on a wired network), but since it's ranked lower, nothing will flow across it.
