I just woke up my computer by pressing the space bar. It happened be in Dashboard and now the spacebar overwrote an important note I had selected in the note widget! And there is no undo! How can I undo in Dashboard and get my note back?

note widget? Do you mean the Stickies widget? The Stickies widget was clearly rushed, based on the limited features it has. I don't think there's much of a way to recover your note. If it lacks a critical feature you need, you have to find another widget or use a stand alone program.

I wouldn't trust an important note to an un-saveable thing like the Stickies widget. Hey, if there's no undo, there's no undo.

Assuming Undo is possible with widgets, there are other note widgets out there like the woefully un-free NotePad from Widget Machine.

I know there are other note taking applications. I was just punching in that number into the "Stickies" widget (sorry for getting its name wrong) for convenience' sake.

Yet another reason I hate widgets--common sense features like undo, copy & paste, etc. have to be added manually.

Undo yes, but cut, copy, and paste seem to be supported in every widget I've ever tried, even low-budget freeware ones. AFAIK it's built-in.

Yeah, I think they use the standard Cocoa text widgets but without an undo manager, so all the standard text junk will work.

I'm thinking specifically of quExp, which did not allow you to copy its content until I specifically requested the feature (and I appreciate the author's effort in implementing it). I will grant that that widget may be a special case.

Did that widget once not use a native text widget or something? Because if you right-click on its text widget, you'll find that you can even activate the system-wide spell checker, just like in any Cocoa app. I highly doubt that the author specially implemented that.

Whatever that widget was previously doing to cause cut and paste not to work was indeed probably a special case.
