Try typing 'exit' (without the quotes) & see if that gets you into the GUI.
You can run Disk Utility from you OS install disk, which may help. You want the "repair disk" option, wheich can fix some directory problems.

Thanks buddy
I am finally back on my mac.
I ended up doing a re install & archived the previous system info.
another reason it pays to leave at least 10 gigs of space on your HDD
For future seach purposes:
Make sure you have both install cds
Put in the first install CD
turn computer on while holding option button
choose install cd after booted
before you choose o install OS X make sure you choose ARCHIVE
If not it wil erase your HDD

Please follow our rules and use descriptive thread titles free of superlative "noise" like "help". This title is a model of a bad title.

Then how about changing it while you're at it, genius?

How about people choosing their titles well in the first place? Except for noise, it doesn't even contain information.

100% true. But in the time it took that 'mod' tooki to write a snotty remark, he could have just as well corrected the title. That way he would have done something for everybody (his job) instead of just venting on a noob.

since your problem has been solved, changing the title isn't necessary for your benefit. However, letting you know how to post one is.

So the mod changes the title, then we get a "OMG WHERE DID MY THREAD GO?! HELP!" thread.

And that was directed towards...? OP ≠ Yawn.
Yawn's right. The title rule is a good one and reminding people of it is good too, but instead of leaving this absolutely stupid thread title, the mods should change it immediately.

Since the OP's question has already been answered and the discussion is off-topic, I'll close this thread. If anybody wants to discuss what mods should do if they see `Help Help Help' popping up in the thread listing, use the feedback forum … and this time, use a meaningful title
