Upon starting my MacBook, I notice a folder with a question mark on it which is displayed prior to the standard Apple logo. The blinking folder is, presumably, searching for a different startup partition. I do not have any other partitions on the disk. Although this little hinderance is not at all important, the few seconds that it is displayed does bother me considering I had not seen it when I first purchased the machine.

I've gone into System preferences and checked my startup disk settings. Within are two options, the Mac OSX folder and a Network Startup.

is the network startip option the reason for the folder being displayed prior to the Apple logo on startup? If so, how would I remove the blinking folder on startup?
