This morning I noticed that all my emails were gone, restarted my powerbook and everything is back to the original factory setting, every application tells me this is the first time it starts up. All my files disappeared from the Desktop and are now in the documents folder, can't find them with spotlight.

All my contacts are gone in the address book app. It's like a new Powerook with all the original settings. Like I logged in to another computer, what can I do?

I got the latest upgrade but restarted several times after upgrading and all was fine.

did you happen to change your username folder in Users Folder?
I got the same thing while I was working on putting my user folder on another hard drive and messed up..
the folder name should be the same as your short name. which you can go to system prefs -> accounts -> Ur account and view it if needed.
You shouldn't make fun of nerds... you'll be working for one some day.

How much free space do you have left on your machine?
A severe lack of free space, where there isn't enough room for the OS X swap file (which can be a couple of GB in size depending on how much RAM you have), can cause the symptoms you have.

This really shouldn't be possible. And if it is, the system should be smart enough to detect it and compensate.
