Hello, something strange happened to my mac, yesterday i changed the name for the home folder in the finder and when i restarted osx the profile was completely blank!
Now, i can acess the profile and retrieve my documents, but all the settings and databases from contacts, favorites, etc are lost. The profile itself is still there but it does not appear on the system prefernces users list!
Does anyone have any idea how to recover my data? I have a charity organization for young people in london, and a large part of my work is dependent on this data!

Now in this case you can simply rename your old home folder back to the original name, restart, and everything will be as before. But in the future you might encounter problems with data loss you can not recover from. So make a backup of your data! If your work depends on that.

It's not possible to easily change the short user name. Simply renaming the home folder in the Finder does not work.
