I some how mussed up all my fonts on my system and am having application instability. Is there some (hopefully) easy way to re-install the standard fonts (10.4.x) for my system without having to do a complete re-install?

You could use Pacifist to extract them from the installer package. Or just snag them off a working OS X box.
