How do i recover lost files?

I lost a lot of pictures when my camera replaced the folder (with the same name). I have a mac g3 imac 9.0. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Were you using iPhoto?? Or just dragging folders from the mounted disk image of your camera to your computer? Even then, it should have popped up a warning .. More details?
