Hi guys,

I want to be able to bind Cmd+F to launch another Search program, instead of bringing up the Mac OSX search dialogue. How can i do this?

Cheers.

Cmd-F is application specific. You're talking about replacing the one in the Finder ? What about other applications ?

I'm just curious, but why ? And what with ?

I suggest you install Quicksilver, and use that to launch your alternative search program - it's almost as quick as a command key shortcut, and much, much more flexible.

I dont like the search function (CMD+F) in Mac OS X. I want to use an app called Easyfind. Spotlight won't work for what i want as i am going to be searching a FAT32 ext. drive and it wont index it.

I don't want quiksilver. Just want to be able to map keys to launch an app.

Well, you can't do that without 3rd party software. Quicksilver would fit the bill.

Why not put EasyFind in your dock and simply click on it?

use namely for the fastest application finder. i use it and its great. you can set a shortcut to open it. when it opens, you get a little spotlight-style bar and you type in a name, it will come up with the application.

I have EasyFind in the dock at the moment, but I would much rather be able to do a quick keyboard command to bring it up rather then having to get the mouse and click it. It sounds lazy, but everyone knows what its like when they are in the flow of things and keyboard shortcuts are great.

Im using it to find MP3 files, not Applications. I use Spotlight for finding Apps.

I am greatful for the suggestions, but really, all I want to know is if/how I can map a keyboard shortcut to launch an app. Im not really interested in anything else.

Thankyou!

As has already been stated, you will need a third party app to do this. Quicksilver (and probably similar apps) has the ability to create triggers. That is probably going to be the best way to do what you want.

Have installed Quicksilver and after a bit of fiddling I quite like it

Are there skins available for it?

Check the Plug-ins area. Select All Plug-ins. There are different interface modules. You apply them in the Appearance section. It's referred to as Command Interface. I have Cube, Bezel, Menu, Window, Mini, Flashlight and Primer installed on mine.
