I had more than my fair share of problems with 10.4.7, but thought they were all behind me. I hadn't used Front Row since the update. Yesterday, I wanted to go look at some trailers, and found that Front Row no longer works.
The remote is functional, because it will adjust the volume in iTunes. I also tried invoking FR with the key combo (cmd-esp), but no luck.
How can I begin to trouble shoot this? Any ideas?
Mac Specs:
20" iMac CD, 2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, 256MB x1600,
10.4.7 (the update from HELL)

Since I'm a troglodite PowerPC user, I don't know much about FR but:
a) Cheap to cheapest advice: have you tried restarting or logging out?
b) Intermediate cheap advice: have you tried trashing the FR preferences file(s)?. They're usually located at ~/Library/Preferences

Thanks.
But neither of those tips solved the problem. HI ad already restarted, etc.
When I push the 'menu' button, nothing happens.

Maybe...
From console.log (immediately after hitting my 'Menu' key on the remote:
Jul 12 20:14:12 Niall loginwindow[118]: InitServerRemotePort: bootstrap_look_up(): 0x44e: Bootstrap unknown service
Does this mean anything to anyone?

Does Front Row run as a process? If so, what is it called? I can at least check to see what is running on my Mac.

Hehe it's called Front Row.
Only, when you have activity monitor open, choose All Applications in place of Active Applications. You show see it there.

No luck. I guess its not running.
Where does this app live on my system?
I had a nightmare installing 10.4.7, and had to do a full reinstall. I wonder if somehow it didnt get installed.

If I recall correctly, "Front Row" is in the optional/additional software installer package on the system restore CD. Did you even install it?

Hmmmm, I thought I did...but maybe not (its been two weeks, and the whole thing is shrouded in a haze of frustration with Apple). Can I install Front Row only? How?

Put in your system restore CD and look for the installer package called "Additional software" or bundled or optional or something like that. Double-click that package to launch Installer. In the installer click the "Options" or "Custom" button or whatever it is called (it's there after you selected the drive I think). Anyway, the button that let's you select which components to install. You should see all the optional bundled software that came with your computer, and if I recall correctly Front Row was amongst them. Uncheck all the others and you should be able to install it if you haven't already done so.
