Does anyone have a solution for this? I am used to being able to have two applications open and be able to click between them seamlessly. Specifically, I want the ability to be able to click from one application to another and be able to select the speific item with one mouse clilck. For example, I have Entourage and Word open on my desktop. If I am working in Word and I want to switch to Entourage and go directly to a specific mail item, currently I must first click once on Entourage to make it active, then double-click the individual mail item to open it. I also use a Windows machine and it does this in one click. On my MBP I want the same ability. I'd like to be able to work in Word and be able to double-click an Entourage email and open it. Currently double-clicking a mail item while Word is active won't open the item, only bring Entourage to the front; after which I need to double-click again to open the mail item. I assume this is just a difference between how OSX and Windows deal with multi-tasking, but I can't find a preferences setting to enable this feature. Is it possible?

It's an application setting, not a system setting, so it depends upon how each application is coded. The Finder works the way you like, but most other apps don't.

One thing you can do if you're switching back and forth between two applications is use command-tab to switch, then use the mouse.

Yup this is an OS X thing. You'll notice the same thing if you use iTunes in Windows.

Oftentimes a command-click will allow you to operate a control in a background window without first bringing it to the front.
