I'm about to set up my first Mac network, yay!

However, I'm wondering how I'm going to get my big files off my little hard drive via the network. Is there a way to make other files besides the "Public" and "Drop Boxes" so that I can copy all my Documents without having to move them around first?

If you login as one of your registered users you'll have the same rights as that user.

You mean if I enable remote login?

Is there a way to just leech my whole user profile off my old iMac and onto my new MacBook?

Yes. Migration assistant, fount in /Applications/Utilities. Boot your iMac into FW Disk mode, connect it to your MB, and run it from the MB.

If you are trying to move everything from the old computer to the new one, you want to use the Migration Assistant. See Apple's instructions. It's very very easy.

No, I mean File Sharing. Turn on File Sharing and access the Mac from the MacBook. It should ask you if you want to log in as a guest or a registered user. Choose the latter option and log in with the user name and password of one of your accounts. Either that, or go the Migration Assistant route as suggested by one of the other posters.
