Hi there!

I notice that since the last few OS X updates (was it 10.4.4? 10.4.5? I can't tell for sure) I have a sudden burst of "Error while printing" problem. For those of you lucky enough to ignore what it is, it means that whenever I attempt to print, be it on a real printer or in a file, I get the "Error while printing message".

So, what do I do to solve this? The short answer is that by resetting the printing system, I am then able to print again or to manipulate my PDF files using Mac OS X's built-in PDF generator. Obviously, this is far from being a satisfying solution.

Does that happen with all applications? Usually yes. What do I mean by usually? Just that most of the time, all applications are affected but, in some occasions, some of them are spared. Right now, for instance, I can print from TextEdit but not from iWork, Mellel, OmniGraffle, and so forth...

Why is that? Hmm, no clue... So here I fire up Console...

Ok, here is the kind of messages I get:

2006-07-18 10:04:21.128 Keynote[197] PMSessionValidatePrintSettings failed (error code = -50)

and also:

NSInternalInconsistencyException : Invalid PMPrintSettings in print info

So, Let's have a look at:

http://edr.euro.apple.com/documentat...anager_Ref.pdf

There, we learn that error code -50 means that "A required parameter is missing or invalid"

Any clue as to what it may be?

While I'm at it I had a look on the console. I realised that while typing anything in keynote (freshly opened) I get these tons and tons of this kind of message:

2006-07-18 10:01:46.523 [...]/Keynote.app/[...]: CGContextGetCTM: invalid context

Oh oh! Could it be something much more deeper that just printing problem? Of course, at this point, you are certainly aware that this is not a printer problem. The printer works and anyway I'm just trying to print in a PDF file...

So, is there anyone more knowledgeable than me that can enlighten me?

Regards,

CKP
