First question: I have two folders that I use fairly often stored on an external HD connected to my MBP. I'd like to have these two folders in Finder's sidebar for easy access when the HD is plugged in, but whenever I eject the drive the icons disappear, and don't come back when I reconnect it. Can anyone think of a way to fool the sidebar into thinking they're there, so it doesn't remove the icons? I've tried making aliases for them on my internal HD and then dragging those aliases to the sidebar, but Finder's too smart for that trick.

Alternately, if there's a way to automatically set up those icons when the drive is mounted (through a script of some sort?), that would make me happy too.

A second question: one of those folders that I have stored on my external drive is my Movies folder, because it got too big for my internal drive. When I moved it from my Home folder to the external drive, it lost its special icon. Is there somewhere where those default special folder icons are stored that I can use to restore the icon on that folder?

for the second one: Do Apple+I on both icons(the Movies folder and your new folder) then at the top of the Get Info window you'll see a little icon. Copy by marking the original then switch to your new folder- mark the icon and paste.

That would work well, except that I didn't copy the movies folder, I moved it. When I moved it, it lost its icon, but it was still a move, and the old folder is gone from my Home folder.

Drag the alias in the toolbar area instead of the sidebar... it might stay there...
