Hello there,

I'm a previous Windows-user that recently switched to a Mac. I just bought a new Macbook and I want to reinstall Mac OS X with just a few selection from the bundled programs. The only programs that I need are iTunes, Safari, and Quicktime. On a Mac, do I have the option of choosing which programs to install or everything is installed as a bundle? I'm doing this to free up space since this computer would be used mostly for music production and internet surfing.

Thank you.

Carlos,
When you start from the install OS CD, when appears a window selecting the HD to install i think there´s an option below saying "custom install". It´s a button and then appears what you want to install.
If you do not pay attention you will miss it, as i missed before.
Every step read carrefully the informations on the screen and you will see it.

You can boot from the DVD (insert, reboot, press and hold c) and select to erase the HD and install a fresh OS X. Proceed with the installer until you're about to click the final 'Install' button. To its left, there's a 'Customize' button. Hit that, deselect all the stuff you don't want and install. Finished.

If you want to install something additional later on, just boot from the DVD, chose the OS X volume and install the packages w/o selecting to erase the current install. That way you could install something like iDVD further down the road if you chose to wait with it now.
