hey there,

I've recently bought a new macbook (about a month ago) and it has been working fine until recently when I noticed some of the widgets that I had downloaded dissapearing from the dashboard...I hadn't thought anything of it since its nothing major.
However, when I turned on my macbook on the next day I found that ALL of my previous system settings (ie. my wallpaper, trackpad settings and most of my files) had been erased! =.( The weird thing is that SOME of my files are still present, I'm very puzzled =S anyone have any ideas about what's wrong with my machine?

I have installed the bootcamp beta and WIN XP SP2 but nothing was effected on that partition.

thanks for reading my post! CAL

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Run Disk Utility on your hard drive. Boot from the install disk, Disk Utility is available in the menus. If it finds anything wrong, let it try and fix it.

Yes, it's not allowed. You need to rename it back to what it was and log out and back in again.

All of your settings, documents, pictures, mail, EVERYTHING are stored in your home folder.

If you rename your home folder, the system cannot find it and will re-create the original home folder with the original name, of course reverting everything to its default settings.

Boot your machine, and without having any programs open (other than the Finder), drag the NEW home folder to the trash - don't empty the trash.

Then rename your old home folder back to what it was and restart immediately.

I'm sending my "Warn people before they rename their home folder" feedback to Apple again. Anybody else inclined to do the same is welcome to.
