Just noticed this, this is on Mac OS X 10.4.7, repaired permissions but no luck, is there a way to hide this folder again?

hmm.. well Oddly I was trying to unhide a folder one day when I found out this:

1. Enable hidden files.

2. you will see a file called .hidden open it

3. add a return if none after last entry (mine is Volumes) and add usr and hit return.

4. Save it (you might need to save to desktop and then move it to the hard drive, replace

5. Run Repair Permissions so it sets permissions on it correctly.

I was able to hide/unhide a files on my hard drive one day by doing that.
You shouldn't make fun of nerds... you'll be working for one some day.

^ That worked in previous versions of OS X, but I think that Tiger (or was it Panther) did away with the .hidden file. Nowadays you'll need to use an app like XRay to set the "Invisible" bit for the folder.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

FWIW, if you open a hidden folder such as usr, it will remain visible until you either quit and re-launch the Finder or log out and back in or restart.
