My G5 iMac (10.4.7) was having occasional performance hickups. So I used disk utility (booted off of my iBook) to repair the volume. Found several problems. Claimed to have fixed them. Problem is when I started back up it went straight to a black darwin screen asking me to login. My normal login and password do not work. It won't let me get past this black screen. Any suggestions?

Try rebooting while holding down command+s to go into single user mode. Then run fsck -yf until one or two times, until you get the HD OK message, then type exit. If that does not work, I'd recommend getting Disk Warrior.
