I just got my blackbook setup and now I'm installing the software updates that are currently out. I looked into the hard drive and realized I only had around 57 GB of memory left - how big is Tiger actually?

Tiger is only 4-5GB in size itself. You have tons of other software on there, like Garageband and iDVD, which are about 5-6GB in size total, not including any other software.

GAAAAHHH No wonder... the software updates for the other things I have on here are already over 500 mb in size..

What I would do is just put the Install DVD in and reformat. Pick only the stuff you need, you can save a TON of space that way.

There are printer drivers, extra languages, lots of trial software (Office, iWork, etc), a bunch of games, and more stuff that you probably do not need. The GarageBand and iMovie take up several gigabytes by themselves.

Yeah, there's about a gig worth of printer drivers installed by default. The first thing I do with a new mac is reinstall the OS and deselect all the printer drivers and languages I'm never going to use.

It also helps to delete the iDVD/iMovie themes you will never use. The HD templets can take up a lot of space too.

same thing happened to me. I had about 57 gigs free and all my music from my powerbook wouldn't fit! quite frustrating.
