OK guys here is my problem. I just tried to install 10.4 from 10.1 and the 2nd cd wont load for one reason or another and now i cant even get back into the original 10.1. Is there anything i can do short of getting a new copy of OSX?

I finally got it to go through the entire install but now each time it finishes it says there were errors and to try again. Then it goes right back to asking for the 2nd disc again. I got a DVD from a friend of mine but it bypasses it and goes right to the asking for 2nd CD again. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the disc is defective, you'll need a new disc.
This sort of weird **** happens sometimes, though, when you have bad RAM, or a dying hard drive.
Also, did you verify and, if applicable, repair the drive using Disk Utility before installing?

I have tested all the ram and removed the bad ones. Wasnt able to boot up before hand at all.
Drive is brand new replacement. Since the 20gig was just too small. Could it be a problem with the firmware i have read about when changing over to 10.4?

Is there a way to boot up into a disk utility so i can reformat the hard drive and check it before running the install?

You can run disk utility within the OS X Installer. It's in a menu in the installer.

I had that problem too. Never did get a replacement Disc 2 sent from Apple, although you may have more success than I did since they have since stopped using India for tech support (hopefully). What I ended up having to do was to make a 40-minute drive to the nearest Apple store with a dual-layer DVD-R and have them burn a copy of one of the stock Disc 2s that they had there.
