Hey I have a bunch of friends who just left for college and don't seem to be able to video chat with me anymore. They get an error message saying isufficiant bandwidth. I've had them run speed tests which show results at just about 20 megabits up and down so thats not the problem. Presumably their schools are either throttling or blocking the port, though I'm not sure about that either. You guys have any thoughts? I guess video chats take kind of a lot of bandwidth so i could see them maybe blocking it for that reason. Anyone have any idea if its possible to change the port it uses?

Try to limit the bandwidth in iChat preferences?

They're probably doing some form of draconian filtering like my college. They block, among other things, all UDP-based traffic (as opposed to TCP-based traffic). iChat just happens to use UDP. As do many multiplayer games and all Nintendo DS games . . . bah.

Or the college in question has a packet shaper installed (much like my college) in which case you are more or less screwed.

I'll bet your college friends can video chat with other college friends on the same campus.
