Hi all,

I have a MacBook Pro running the latest MacOS 10.4x. I created a new user account, and my computer stalled. I forced a (hard) shut-down by pressing the power button for 10-seconds.

Re-started. Computer turns on, but the screen remains grey. It never makes it to the spinning process / Apple logo screen. I tried zapping the P-RAM, but it didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Moo!

That sounds like it's failing very early on in the boot process. Try starting up in single user mode by holding command+s to see if you can do even that. If you can, at the prompt type fsck -yf then press return. After it runs through it will say FILESYSTEM MODIFIED; do it again until it says DISK OK. Then type exit and see if it continues to boot normally. If it does not boot in single user mode, come back and let us know.

Hey Big Mac, thanks for the info. I tried your instructions without luck... also tried removing the powercord and battery, then holding down the power key for five seconds. This also did not work, and so this puppy will be hitting the Apple Genius Bar shortly.

In any case, thanks so much for the info. Much appreciated! =)

Can you boot from Tiger DVD or from external drive?
